Sharing my business journey, advice and guidance, is a passion of mine. When I first started writing this blog it was all about business, but then I began opening up more & decided to share a side of me that might just relate to someone. As well as writing about outsourcing & delegation, you can also read more about my 'why' & my experience with mental health.

We’re breaking a myth here today:
Working longer hours does not guarantee business success.
It is working smart that reaps results.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of believing that working hard is synonymous with success. It’s a message that is conditioned into us from a young age in this capitalist society. We’ve been bombarded with messages that equate busyness with achievement, and the notion that if we’re not working around the clock, we’re not doing enough and even feel guilty.
But hustle culture doesn’t always lead to results, real productivity looks a whole lot different than simply clocking in more hours. In fact, working those extra hours may just be holding you back.
The Productivity Paradox
Have you heard of the Productivity Paradox?
Well, studies have shown that after working for eight hours, productivity starts to decline. In fact, output can drop by as much as 50% when working 60+ hours a week. The quality of your work suffers when quantity becomes your sole focus.
This is another reminder that it really isn’t about how long you work; it’s about how effectively you use your time.
Fear of exhaustion and burnout
If you’re working endless hours, on top of doing everything else life requires of you (cooking, cleaning, food shopping etc), chances are you’re going to be exhausted.
And I hate to break it to you, but you can’t get creative when you’re exhausted. Your brain needs downtime to make connections and develop innovative ideas. When you’re running on empty, you’re less likely to come up with groundbreaking solutions or creative strategies. Rest and recovery are crucial for maintaining a sharp mind and fresh perspective.
Plus, chronic overworking can lead to burnout and a host of stress-related illnesses. When you’re constantly working, you’re not just depleting your energy; you’re risking your health. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Prioritising your well-being is essential for sustained success and personal satisfaction.
Missed opportunities
When you’re always working, you’re missing out on more than just sleep. You might be overlooking important opportunities to connect with your team, attend industry events, or engage in meaningful conversations.
On top of that, you might be missing out on so much in your personal life too.
