Now I’m 40, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible journey that has led me to this point so far. There have been many highs and lows along the way – trust me, it hasn’t been easy but it’s been so rewarding.
With the new year upon us, I’m feeling an extra layer of excitement for everything that lays in store over the next 12 months.
I wanted to share this blog post with you to inspire you, wherever you are on your journey, to know that there are no “shoulds” when following your dreams. You get to do whatever you ‘want’ to do.
Don’t be afraid to start again
This is something that I’ve learned along the way and looking back, I’ve been so grateful of every time I’ve started again, even when it felt scary. Each time I moved countries and started somewhere new, it was terrifying but so worth it. I wouldn’t be who I am today without these daring leaps of faith and moving my life into the direction I wanted it to go in.
Now I’m 40, I still know now that if I wanted to start something new, I would trust myself and run with it.
There is no room for “shoulds”
The societal notion of what one “should” be doing at a certain age can be stifling. Who the hell holds this over you? Tell that invisible being to bugger off.
I’ve come to realise that there are no real rules; this script of my life is mine to write and I’m going to write it how I want! Slowly I’ve learned to discard the expectations imposed on me by embracing the freedom to do what I want, when I want.
It’s a real powerful realisation to experience. When you realise you have autonomy over your journey, you almost become unstoppable – nothing is holding you back and you can head towards making your dreams happen. A metaphorical big fat middle finger to societal norms!!
Ditch the fear & embrace confidence and clarity
So much of starting again and making big, bold decisions comes from having a reslient mindset that favours courage and confidence.
Fear is a natural response, but it’s how we deal with it and carve our vision from that feeling. Trusting in yourself and being your driving force is the key to more clarity.
40 fabulous years into this journey called life, the fear of the unknown doesn’t hold the same power it once did. It’s a testament to the resilience that comes with experience and the unwavering belief that every new beginning will be a promising one!
A reminder to follow your dreams
I invite you to reflect on your own journey and to remember that there is no rule book to your life. The thing that you think limits you might just be what makes you unique. So whether you think you’re too old, too late, or not enough, trust that you’ve got this.
The new year brings with it the chance to rewrite your story, to start anew with courage, confidence, and an unyielding commitment to your dreams.
